Hello! My name is Tammy Portwood and I am the Drama Queen of Southern Middle School! As the drama teacher on the Exploratory Team, I have the unique opportunity to teach all students 6th through 8th grade. I have been at SMS for the past 10 years, and this is my 16th year of teaching.
Drama is a truly awesome class to teach because my students are able to perform in many different ways. Throughout the schoolyear, my 6th graders focus on the Performance Elements of drama, my 7th graders on the Literary Elements, and my 8th graders review Performance, Literary and Technical Elements and study theater history.
At the end of the year, I plan to produce a fantastic play and perform it for the school, as well as the public. We always have a big crowd in attendance for our productions because the students work hard to make them spectacular! This year, auditions will be open for all students grades 6 through 8!
In the past, I have also coached an award-winning Speech & Drama team here at SMS. I hope to revive the team for the 2009-2010 school year. This, too, will be available to the entire student body.
