Text: Prentice Hall Mathematics Algebra 1 by Bellman, Bragg, Charles, Handlin, and Kennedy.
Supplies:
-Notebook: Students will need a notebook of their choice (spiral w/ a separate folder or 3-ring binder w/ divider tabs) to keep class notes and assignments organized. The notebook is designed to help students with their organizational skills as well as aid them in learning the mathematical concepts for this class.
-Calculator: scientific calculators will be provided for students when working in class, however, it is recommended that students have a calculator for use at home. A scientific calculator is preferred but a four function calculator will suffice.
-Pencils
Make-Up Work: Attendance is absolutely necessary in order to be successful in math! However, if it is necessary for a student to be absent, he/she has five days from the day of absence to complete and turn in make-up work. There will be a calendar in the classroom, which will have all daily assignments written on it. When a student returns from being absent he/she should refer to the calendar to get missed assignments. If worksheets were passed out the day of the absence, he/she may pick them up from a designated area in the classroom.
Grades: A point system will be used to determine grades. There are several ways to earn points. An explanation of each method is provided below.
-Bell Ringer (5 pts. a week): When students enter the classroom they are expected to begin working on the bell ringer that will be written on the marker board. Students are expected to write and complete the bell work daily. It will be collected once a week for a grade.
- Homework Assignments (5-25 pts each): Assignments will be given almost every day. These assignments will vary in length and will be collected at the beginning of each class period. To earn full credit on assignments, work must be shown.
- In-Class Assignments (5-10 pts each): In-Class Assignments will range from independent practice to group work. These assignments will be used to reinforce lecture notes.
- Quizzes (25 pts each): Quizzes will be given to break up longer chapters. Students will be given quizzes over smaller sections in the chapter and then will have a unit test once the chapter is complete.
- Unit Tests (100 pts each): Unit tests will be given at the completion of each chapter.
Rules and Expectations:
1.Be on time
2.Come to class prepared and begin working on bell work
3.Respect yourself, your peers, and your teachers
4.Obey all school Rules and Procedures
Consequences:
1st offense: Warning
2nd offense: Moved, Refocus, and/or conference with stdent
3rd offense: Parent contact and documented referral
4th offense: Principals office/referral
* Consequences in agenda book will be followed accordingly
