Hello! My name is Scott Kelley and I teach Language Arts for the 6th Grade White Team at Southern Middle. This is my eleventh year of teaching and I have enjoyed all of them. I have taught every grade from 6th through 12th but my favorite, of course, is 6th.
I graduated from Northwood High School in Saltville, VA, in 1992. From there, I went on to obtain my Bachelor's degree from Cumberland College and graduated in 1996. Finally, I obtained my Master's degree from Eastern Kentucky University in 2002.
Professionally, I am the Middle Section Vice-President for the Kentucky Council of Teachers of English/Language Arts. I have served with this organization since 2001. I have served in the positions of PRESLM Coordinator, 1st Vice President, President-Elect, President and Past President. I am a member of NCTE, the national organization of our affiliate. This year I was selected to be in the first ever Pulaski County Teacher Leadership Institute. It has opened my eyes to many new ideas to hellp better my school. I am on our school's SDBM council, serve as yearbook advisor and am the publicity chair for the school.
As for my personal life, I am married to Devona, a legal secretary with the Cabinet for Families and Children. We got married on May 25th, 1996, exactly one week after graduation. We also have a beautiful (and if I may say so, brilliant) son, Samuel Emery. He was born November 15, 2006. Our lives have never been the same since. Being his father has helped me to understand my students more.
I look forward to this year and can't wait to see the progress my students will make!
