Hello! Welcome to our class website. My name is Mrs. Stephanie Foster and this is my third year at Burnside Elementary and my fifth year teaching. I have a wonderful group of students this year who love to learn. Our classroom is an exciting place to be. We start our instructional day off with reading. In fact, our school is a Reading First school. This program is designed to implement whole group instruction, small group instruction and literacy centers into the classroom every day. Our students enjoy learning with lots of instruction-based, hands-on activities. Breakthrough to Literacy is another program that our school participates in. Teachers use this supplemental program to engage students in whole group discussion and activities that relate to science and social studies core content standards. Students also receive 15 minutes daily of individualized computer instruction. Our afternoons are packed full of many fun and exciting math lessons and activities. Our school does the Everyday Math series. It is a hands-on approach to teaching math that allows students to have fun while still learning the necessary math skills for first grade. With this program students engage in many games that are instruction-based. Our math is also supplemented with the Success Maker computer program. Our class spends 20 minutes each day in the computer lab where students have the opportunity to receive individualized math instruction, review and practice of essential math skills. At Burnside our students enjoy learning and growing as individuals. This is a great place to come to school and a great place to work!
