Shopville Elementary School

Hello and welcome to my webpage!!

My name is Shannon Dick and I am the Curriculum Specialist at Shopville Elementary School. I've been at Shopville since 1996 (with the exception of one year) and I absolutely love this school and community! I graduated from EKU with an Elementary Education degree, have a Master's Degree in Elementary Education, and Rank I certification in administration. I am married to David and we have five furry children with us and two beautiful angels in heaven watching over us. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family!

One of my responsibilities is coordinating the administration of the PAR (Pulaski Assessment of Reading) and PAM (Pulaski Assessment of Mathematics). PAR is an individually administered assessment given to all Primary students (K-3rd grade). Each kindergarten through fifth grade students takes the PAM test. The results of these assessments are used to guide instruction based on each child's strengths and needs.

In addition, Shopville Elementary School is the recipient of a Kentucky Read to Achieve grant. This grant provides funding for providing reading interventions for our primary students in need. One of the requirements for this state funded grant is that all of our students in the primary program take the GRADE assessment at the beginning and end of each school year. The purpose of the GRADE test is to assess vocabulary and comprehension.

Beginning in August 2008, we are implementing the Aimsweb system of assessing and monitoring student progress. This will be an excellent tool for the teachers to use to ensure that each of their student's are making appropriate progress in the areas of reading fluency (how many words the child is able to read correctly), reading comprehension (does the child understand the meaning of what he/she just read), and math fluency (correctly answering a variety of math problems). Parents will receive reports once the assessments have been administered.

Our teachers do a fabulous job analyzing each of the assessment pieces in order to better understand the abilities and needs of each of their students. They continuously are linking curriculum, instruction, and assessment to guarantee success for each child.

Please feel free to contact me at school to discuss your child's progress throughout the year. Together with the parents, teachers, and students, we can do great things! My number at school is 274-4411 and my email address is shannon.dick@pulaski.kyschools.us.
