This year begins my eleventh year teaching at Shopville Elementary. I have taught fourth and fifth grades and have also taught in the Computer Lab. This year I will be teaching 5th grade Language Arts.
Our normal Reading Routine involves reading a story from th Harcourt Trophies reading book and working on skills that accompany that story. Each story takes about a week to complete. At the conclusion of each story, we have a comprehension test over that story. The test is open book. Each test also includes an Open Response Question. I ask that all test papers be signed and returned to school.
Some months, students are also given a book project to complete. This allows students to read a book of their choice, take an AR test on the book, and then complete an assigned project. I ask for students to be creative & to turn in their best work.
