Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand." Author Unknown

Welcome to an exciting and fun filled year of preschool. During the beginning of the year we will be focusing on learning the school routine, classroom rules and expectations, and social skills including sharing and turn taking. The children will also be participating in activities centered around colors, shapes and name recognition. As the fall season approaches the children will learn many new vocabulary words and concepts as they encounter new experiences in preschool. Breakthrough to Literacy, a computer program is available to students in the classroom. Children read stories and complete related activities on the computer.

Play, play, play, I can't emphasize how important play is in the lives of children. John Locke, theorist, wrote of the importance of play. Play gives children time for creativity and to use their imagination with no other purpose other than their own. Play also enhances social skills. People need people and play is the best way to develop those much needed social skills. Children also need the opportunity to make choices and decisions. When the choice or decision is made , hands-on activities are the best tools for learning. The child is responsible for his/her learning and who knows better what he/she needs at a given time.

Parental involvement is extremely important during the early years. Children learn best when parents and teachers work together toward the common goal of educating the child. It also boasts the child's self-esteem when parents are actively involved. Please feel free to be a part of your child's education. You are welcome in our class anytime! If you have a few extra minutes during the day come and read a book to our class!
