PEER TUTOR SYLLABUS**
Welcome, I am glad that you have become a peer tutor in a special needs classroom. I hope you will find this a rewarding experience!
There are a few things that I will expect from you, which is as follows:
- Be on time
- Be ready to work
- Please do not invite your friends to come down to the classroom (you are receiving the grade not them)
- This classroom is not to be used as a place to hang out (you should not be in here unless it is during your class time or unless I request that you be in here)
- Please do not do other class work or homework while you are in this class
- Do not come in and do nothing and expect to get a grade, you will receive a zero
- Please do not ask to use the phone or my computer
- If you leave the classroom, you must have your agenda book and you will be accompanied by one of my students (unless this is a bathroom trip)
- Please check the chalkboard on a daily basis for any notes, admit slips, library notices, etc.
- Everything that happens in this classroom is confidential and is not to be discussed outside of the classroom. If you need to discuss something that happened, please see me.
You will be graded on the following grading scale:
100-90% A
89-80%B
79-70%C
69-60%D
59- 0%F
You will have the opportunity to earn 10 points on a daily basis. If you spend the entire class period working with the students, you will earn 10 points for the day.
Daily assignment may include the following:
- Assisting students with their assignments
- Working on an assignment given to you by the teacher or an instructional assistant
- Filing papers
- Accompanying a student to class
- Assisting a student with a meal or a snack
- Working on social skills with a student
- Accompanying a student on an errand
- Accompanying a student on a CBI activity
- Reading and answering questions about disabilities (these assignments will be worth up to 100 points)
How can you loose points?
- Unexcused tardy (2 points + school policy for unexcused tardies)
- Not working with my students, working on assignments from another class, sleeping (up to 10 points)
- Socializing with the other peer tutors, instructional assistants, and me but not with my students (up to 10 points)
- Using inappropriate language'85this includes the words retarded and stupid (10 points)
- Unexcused absence (10 points)
Your daily grades will be averaged for your 9 weeks grade. There will be a mid-term and final exam. This will be a reflective essay question on your thoughts about peer tutoring. Seniors that meet the requirements will be exempt from these exams.
My students address me as Ms. Lisa. You may do this also (or you may call me Ms. Godby) but do not address me by my first name only. My instructional assistants will let you know how they prefer to be addressed.
I know that you will enjoy this class and the students...it can be a fun class. We will be taking at least 2 field trips (you will receive information about this at a later date). If you have any questions, please ask. I will be more than glad to answer them.
Ms. Lisa
