Welcome to my web page!

I am the Seventh Grade Orange Team Science teacher.

Let me tell you a little about myself.

I am a lifelong resident of Pulaski County. I am married to Ron Roy. I have a daughter, Erica, who is 26 , a son in law, Jeremy who is 25 and a granddaughter, Reese, who is 6 years old. I also have three dogs; Sable, Mallory and Princerella.

I graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science and I also have a Master's Degree in Instructional Leadership. I have taught at Southern Middle School for 8 years.

Seventh Grade Orange

Purpose: The purpose of the curriculum in the seventh grade science classroom is to ensure that students have mastered the content that is set forth by the Kentucky Department of Education.

Content: This is a condensed version of the core content for science that is to be mastered by the seventh grade students in Kentucky schools. *

Students will understand the properties and changes in matter.
Students will understand the nature of motion and forces.
Students will understand the transfer of energy.
Students will understand the structure of the Earth system.
Students will understand the Earth in the Solar System.
Students will understand the structure and function in living systems.
Students will understand the regulation and behavior of organisms.
Students will understand reproduction and heredity.
Students will understand the diversity and adaptations of organisms.
Students will understand populations and ecosystems.
Students will understand scientific ways of thinking and working.
Students will understand how science helps to drive technology.
Students will understand the individuals roles and responsibilities in maintaining the environment.
Students will understand the history and nature of science.

Evaluation of Student Performance: Students will be evaluated on the following criteria:
Daily classroom performance- this will be on group work and individual participation.
Tests- students will be given periodic quizzes and tests to assess progress on content mastery. These tests will be multiple choice and open response. The open response questions will be worth more than the multiple choice.
Labs- students will do labs as part of groups and individually.
Homework- students will be given homework that might consist of written assignments or it may consist of some hands on activities. Sometimes it may require participation by family members.

This syllabus is a guide to what the student can expect to encounter this year. If you have any questions please contact me and I will be glad to answer them.
