My name is Karen Belwood. I am 40 years old. I have been married for twenty two years to my husband, Robert Belwood who is also a teacher for the Pulaski County District. I graduated from the Midway College teaching program in May of 2007 with a Bachelors of Arts degree. My area of emphasis is in English. I have three children aged twenty one, seventeen and thirteen, my oldest is a junior at Western Kentucky University, my seventeen year old is a senior at Southwestern High School and is a 2007 Kentucky Governor Scholar. My youngest child is a seventh grader at Southern Middle School who carries a 4.0 since elementary school. I feel that education is a major part of any child's life and nurturing a positive love for learning is vital for success.
Burnside Elementary is a small school with a big impact in the community, leading the county with the highest test scores for the 2007 KCCT test. The feeling of family and community within the school has helped the studnets feel a sense of responsibility given rise to pride and therefore success. I am proud to say that I am a teacher at Burnside Elementary and hope to carry on with the mission of this school to create students who reach their academic potential in and out of school.
My classroom is a place where all students can learn to their highest ability and participate in their own learning. I provide centers that enhance the learning process and guide students to achieve independently. My classroom is a family where collaboration is the focus and helping each other to succeed is emphasized. The atmosphere of the classroom is of a family unit and the school is the community where success is attainable for all.
