Mrs. Atwell
Fourth Grade Teacher
In my class, we focus on high expectations for all learners. Students in fourth grade are assessed several times a year. We take the Pulaski Assessment of Math, Unit Assessments, and Kentucky Core Content Test, which includes a portfolio. Character plays an important role in our curriculum. To help with responsibility, planners are given to each fourth grader and parents should read & sign them nightly. In fourth grade we switch classes for reading, math, science, writing, and practical living. Binders help keep them organized. To help encourage responsibility, we use a reward system with Burnside General Dollars. Students get points for attendance, Accelerated Reader Points, Honor Roll, and portfolio pieces. These dollars can be used to attend events held at the end of the month. Dollars can be taken away for lack of homework and behavior. Progress reports will be sent home in the middle of the nine weeks. Checked papers will be sent home daily, but some will require a signature to make sure the grade has been seen. I believe that parents and caregivers are the first and most important teachers and role models. Your support as community members and parents is vital to the education of our youth and is greatly appreciated.
