Classroom Policies and Procedures
Students will:
1. Show respect for others, the materials used, and materials covered.
2. Be prepared for class everyday. Have YOUR textbook, writing utensils, paper, homework, etc. Be in your seat ready to begin when the bell rings. Be prepared to participate.
3. Attend class regularly and be on time. Class participation, discussion, and activities cannot be made up on an individual basis outside of class - alternative assignments will not be as effective.
4. Utilize English class time for English class. It is not acceptable to work on other assignments during this class. It is also not acceptable to ask to leave this class in order to visit the library, computer lab, or another classroom to work on other assignments.
5. Be responsible. Complete and turn in all assignments on time. Do not leave your textbook or other belongings in the classroom - with 160 students in and out each day, these items could easily leave with someone else.
6. Observe all rules and guidelines set forth by the district, school, and classroom teacher.
Classroom Procedures
1. In the classroom: NO food or drink except water. Be in your seat when the bell rings. Windows, blinds, and heat/AC are not to be adjusted by students. Teachers desk and area are off-limits to students. This includes the white board and markers. Raise your hand if you wish to speak or be on the floor. No talking to classmates during lectures, presentations, or discussions, regardless of the topic.
2. Bellwork: There will be bellwork on the board each day as soon as you enter the classroom; begin immediately. Bellwork covers materials you will see on the test. Keep this in a notebook; it will be collected regularly and will be a part of your grade.
3. Leaving class: Unlike in middle school, here at PCHS you are expected to go to the restroom, lockers, YSC, office, etc., on your own time during the 5 minute break provided between classes. Please dont ask to leave class unless it is an emergency. Emergencies do not occur daily, weekly, or monthly.
4. Downtime: Time is valuable. During English class, there is no such thing as downtime! If you have finished all assignments, you must use the remaining time for reading. Research shows that practicing your reading skills (just as you practice football, soccer, and piano) is the only way to improve them. Sleeping in class at PCHS is unacceptable and will result in immediate referral to ASD, so be sure you get plenty of rest each night.
5. Behavior: You are expected to behave in a mature, composed manner in the classroom, hallways, courtyard, computer lab, library, auditorium, and anywhere else we may be as a class.
6. Its your choice to abide by the rules and policies set forth by the district, school, and classroom teacher. If you choose to behave in an irresponsible or disruptive fashion, the consequences are a result of that decision.
