"Music is for EVERYONE, not just girls, not just the wealthy, not just the very talented, but EVERYONE."
Northern Middle School

Hello!
Parents, students, fellow staff members, this is going to be a terrific year for Choral musiic at NMS simply because of the enormous talent we have. We have here at Northern a gifted group for 6th,7th, and 8th graders and we call that group Northern Singers. Come and see this wonderful group of approximately 50 voices work, learn, and develop choral skills far beyond their age group. Our repertoire is listed on another page.

I also teach basic general music using our new piano lab as the basic teaching idiom - - a most exciting and successful approach. Hands on learning seems to keep students engaged better in the learning process.

Also taught are general choral classes. In these classes we develop choral skills and I also have the opportunity to work with the cambiata, the male changing voice. We learn here how to use our voices.

Singing is a standard here in Pulaski County. I find a great correlation between singing ability with communities that sing in church, especially small rural churches. I am lucky to have these natural harmony singers as my students and look forward to each and every day.
