Southern Middle School

Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year. My name is Gwyn Parson. I teach Language Arts for the Sixth Grade Orange Team at Southern Middle School .

Professionally, I have over twenty years experience as a classroom teacher. My experiences cover five states and include all curricular areas in eight grade levels. Born, raised and educated in the great state of Alabama, I recieved my Bachelor of Science in Education from Samford University in 1973. The week before my wedding in 1975, I recieved my Masters of Science in Education also from Samford University. I come from a long line of educators. My Grandmother Burress was a teacher in a one room school house in Marion County, my mother started her teaching career in Harlan before teaching at Peabody College in Nashville. My father taught and was principal in White County, Tennessee, then taught at Vanderbuilt in their Political Science department. I am proud to be a teacher. I love to read and share learning with my students.

My husband, BJ, and I have raised four children, Laura Ashleigh, John Campbell, Sarah Elizabeth and Jessica Kathryn. They all attended school in Pulaski County and graduated from Southwestern High School. The youngest, Jessica, attends the Universtity of Kentucky as a rising senior. My daughter, Laura Ashleigh, and her husband have given me two precious granddaughters, Hannah and Holly. We enjoy reading together everyday.

This academic year will be a turning point in your student's lives. In class we will read and intergrate new vocabulary. We will develop stategies in reading and writing that will empower them to successfully meet future challanges.
