WELCOME TO BURNSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
My name is Carolyn Turner. I have been teaching for 19 years. I have been at Burnside Elementary School for 10 years.
I am teaching kindergarten students using the Scott Foresman Sidewalks Early Reading Intervention.
The Scott Foresman Sidewalks Early Reading Intervention helps our teachers identify at-risk children in Kindergarten and provide interventions to improve reading achievement. I work with 5 or 6 kindergarten studentsfor 30 minutes. I collaborate with each of the 4 kindergarten teachers in order to best serve these students with any problems they may experience in the classroom. I also use additional materials that I feel are necessary for students to succeed in reading.
Based on the recommendation of the teachers and the students PAR scores, I used the Placement Test to determine where a child best fits with the program. Children are assessed on letter names and sounds, initial sounds, segmenting, letter sound correspondence, and reading regular words.
There are four progress-monitoring tests, one for each part of the program. Administering these tests lets you know if the children are ready to move on to the next part of the program or if children needs additional instruction.
The Exit Test allows you to determine whether or not your children have appropriately mastered the skills in the program and are ready to end their intervention lessons.
