I teach third grade, and I enjoy the enthusiasm, curiosity, and energy of these young learners! Students switch classes every day. I teach Science and Social Studies; Mrs. Ford teaches Math; and Ms. Ross teaches Reading, Grammar, and Spelling. We do some Writing at certain times of the year. I enjoy hands-on learning, and want students to develop a sense of exploration and curiosity about becoming life-long learners in all areas - not just school subjects!

We send a third grade newsletter home at the beginning of most weeks. It describes what students are learning in each classroom, and gives important updates and information about school or class events. The newsletter also contains the week's Spelling words. You may call the school (274-4411, ext. 2228) after hours to access my voice mail. You may leave a voice mail message and hear what my homework assignment is (if any). I do not check my voice mail or email on non-school days. My school email address is connie.isaacs@pulaski.kyschools.us. Mrs. Ford's voice mail extension is 2212, and Ms. Ross's is 2210.

I enjoy learning with the students, and welcome communication from parents at any time. My educational background includes a B.S. in Biology, Ph.D. in Zoology, M.Ed. in Elementary Education, and M.A.T. in Instructional Leadership.

For March 8-12, 2010:

In December, students in all classes created a list of ways to help themselves do better in science. Pay attention; work on vocabulary; follow directions; take time to give your best effort; double check your work; look for key words; use process of elimination on multiple choice questions; use details in open response questions. These are all good ideas for every student! I look forward to continued success for students who use those ideas to help themselves.

Students also should continue using the Science Glossary handout, which they keep in their Study Buddy folder. The glossary will help them study vocabulary words at home. Students will highlight terms as they are learned in class. The vocabulary terms will be in the weekly newsletter. Thanks for your support!

We are now doing a short unit combining science and social studies. Students are learning about the circulatory and respiratory systems and the role of health care in our culture. We will learn about the Food Pyramid and which foods are healthy. You may look up information about the pyramid on the website www.mypyramid.gov . Students now have a Social Studies Glossary to keep in their Study Buddy folder to use for daily review.

Students enjoyed creating a "Healthy Heart / Healthy Life" bulletin board with a guest artist on March 5. They received a Review handout on Friday, March 5. They enjoyed healthy (low in fat and sugar) snacks on March 8. They will have a unit test on Tuesday, March 9.
