Hello, my name is Chris Hayes and I am proud to be a member of the Northen Middle School Excalibur/Wizards 6th grade team this Year.
I am the current 6th grade Math-Plus teacher who your son and/or daughter will have twice during the school year.

Monday
Addition:

Addition Problem- An operation that gives the total number when you put together two or more sets of numbers.
Addend- One of the numbers added in addition problems.
Plus- To add. The symbol +.
Regrouping- The process of renaming one place value to another (1 ten to 10).
Sum- The answer to an addition problem.
Counting Numbers/Natural Numbers- Counting Numbers are Whole Numbers, but without the zero. Because you can't "count" zero. So they are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, '85 (and so on).
Whole Numbers- Whole Numbers are simply the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, '85 (and so on).
Integers- Positive numbers, their opposites, and zero
Base Ten- A number system in which each digit has ten times the value of the same digit one place to its right.
Compatible Number- A pair of numbers that are easy to work mentally (25 + 75 = 100, 7 + 3 = 10, 600 + 400= 1000).
Even numbers- A whole number ending with 2, 4, 6, 8, 0
Odd Numbers- A whole number ending with 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9. (Does not have 2 as a factor).
Number Line- A diagram that represents numbers as points on a line.

Subtraction:
Subtraction- An operation that tells the difference between two numbers. It has a minuend and a subtrahend.
Difference- The answer in a subtraction problem.
Minus - To subtract. The symbol -.
Wednesday
Multiplication:
Multiplication- Two factors are used to get a product (5 x 3 = 15). Often referred to as repeated addition.
Product- The answer to a multiplication problem.
Factors- The numbers being multiplied.
Thursday
Division:
Division- An operation of making equal groups and finding the number in each group or the number of groups.
Dividend- The number that is being divided by another
Divisor- The number by which the dividend is divided in
a division problem
Quotient- The answer to a division problem.
Remainder- The number left over when things are divided into equal shares.
