NATIONAL GEOGRAPHY CHALLENGE 2007

Southern Middle School is proud to announce that we have placed 1st in the National Geography Challenge. The contest reflects the main themes of Geography, and is appropriate to grade level.

The National Geography Challenge branched off from the Continental Mathematics League in the early 1980s. The Leagues goal is to aid schools in helping students improve their reading comprehension and problem solving skills.


This year 95 schools across the nation participated in the National Geography Challenge. Southern Middle School is very proud of all our 6th grade students for placing 1st in this competition. We want to recognize Jessie Smith for her outstanding performance. Jessie scored a perfect 100%.


The students with the top five scores on each team are, 6th grade Orange: Jessie Smith, Ashley Simpson, Corey Robinson, Thomas Howard and Lucas Mullins, 6th grade Blue: Kari Popplewell, Trent Massey, Brooke Duel, Aaron Meadows and Dakota Gumm and the 6th grade White team is: Cory Owens, Jacob Jones, Dylan Engle, Lucas Troxell, and David Young.


The 6th grade Social Studies teachers are Ms. Rhonda Blankenship, Mr. Brandon Hensley and Mr. Todd Waters.
