Hello! My name is Scott Sexton and I am proud to be returning for my second year as Director of Bands at NMS! Prior to this year I have 10 years of experience teaching band in both the Hart County and Wayne County School systems. So far this year, we have had several successful performance band performances and the pep band has been performing regularly at NMS sporting events. The NMS Performance Band has had several successful performances so far this year most recently receiving a Distinguished Rating at KMEA Concert Band Festival on March 15, 2007. The band also received straight Superior Ratings at the Trills and Thrills Festival at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN on May 11, 2007. I presently serve as a Festival Manager for District 10 of the Kentucky Music Educators Association. I am also President of the Lake Cumberland Music Educators Association. I was recently named KMEA District 10 Teacher of the Year.
In addition to teaching band classes, I am also teaching piano lab classes here at NMS. We are very fortunate to have a state of the art Yamaha Music in Education piano lab. Numerous studies have shown that this is a most effective method of teaching general music classes. I look forward to implementing this curriculum as NMS strives to continue toward our goal of 100% proficiency in Arts and Humanities.
I am also proud to be coaching the academic team and future problem solving teams at NMS. We have had a very successful year so far finishing 1st in the Kentucky Colonels' Sixth Grade Showcase and winning numerous awards in CmPS and FPS including two international titles!
